The Post Graduate Training Centre, keen to develop the leadership skills of their PhD students, were running an existing leadership programme that was not attracting sufficient numbers of students nor having the desired impact on behaviours.
The University needed a programme that supported employability amongst PhD students and in turn supported the future economy of Northern Ireland and the UK. To do this it needed to:
Attract sufficient numbers of students to justify the cost
Show a measurable impact on day-to-day leadership behaviours of participants
Become renowned for their leadership capabilities as well as academic achievement

Working with the post-graduate training team we developed a clear vision for the future of the programme. We then designed and delivered an enhanced resilient leadership programme which enabled participants to qualify for the Institute of Leadership and Development’s (ILM) Level 5 in Leadership and Management.
Outcomes
Participants saw 10-14% growth in resilient leadership capabilities. Feedback from students has been excellent and includes testimonials that directly evidence the application of their learning and the benefits to both their PhDs and their careers.
